ORGANIZING AND MANAGING YOUR SOFTBALL TEAM

Managing your team as a BGCRE Softball coach is relatively simple. Take a moment to think about how you want to approach the season, what you want to accomplish within the objectives of the BGCRE Softball Program, and what kind of help you’ll need to be comfortable and have fun as a coach. Be honest with yourself about what you can accomplish and what you need.

Preparing and organizing your team takes only a few steps:

  • Introduce yourself.  Even after you meet your team and parents at our BGCRE Softball Kick-Off Event, you should send an email or hold a brief parent meeting before your first practice or game.  A short message welcoming your Softball Players and Parents that outlines your objectives as their coach will set an open, positive tone that will carry you through the season.

  • Recruit and designate a Team Parent/Manager. Your Team Manager can help you notify parents of rainouts or other changes in your season schedule, coordinate post-game team snacks, set-up the field before games, etc.

  • Let your team’s parents know that you need all the help you can get in order to make the most of the season. Do not be ashamed or shy about asking for help!

  • Communicate with your team regularly. Send emails to remind your team about upcoming games, get a head count so you know how many kids to expect on the field, and encourage your team to play and practice on their own during the week. Also, our game scheduling and notification system sends many email reminders about program-wide events.

  • Always stay positive and have fun!
