COACHING BGCRE SOFTBALL: WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.
– John Wooden
Simply put, everything you do as a BGCRE Softball coach should be aimed at preparing your players to perform to the best of their abilities on and off the field.
Depending on how you look at it, this might seem a bit much to ask of a volunteer youth softball coach. Luckily, we have a lot of resources to help you.
First, we have the Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton, which serves as the backbone of support and infrastructure for our program. Second, Little League provides us with proven coaching guidelines and other online and offline resources. Third, we have a team of dedicated parent volunteers that we encourage you to use as resources.
BGCRE and Little League provide a foundation for our overall philosophy and the principles guiding BGCRE Softball:
Safety and Fun – Your primary goal as a BGCRE Softball coach is to provide our softball families with a safe environment and a fun experience that gets our girls excited about the game and gets their parents committed to encouraging them.
Teaching and Learning – BGCRE Softball coaches create “teachable moments” that inspire our girls to become better athletes, teammates and leaders, while learning the Little League virtues of character, courage and loyalty.
Winning – By working to prepare our girls to be the best softball players they can be – in a way that honors the game – BGCRE Softball coaches aspire to help their players become winners on the field and, most importantly, in life.
As a BGCRE Softball coach, no one is in a better position than you to encourage and uphold these principles for our program, and we expect you to take this responsibility seriously.
That said, our primary expectation is for our girls to have fun playing softball. Lots of fun! We want their time on the field to be the highlight of their week, and we want BGCRE Softball to be something our girls and their parents remember as a fun, positive experience for years to come.
If you can do your part to make that happen, you will be a successful BGCRE Softball Coach.
